Short film Rani wins big at NBC Universal Short Film Festival; Kami Sid nominated for Best Actor

Kami Sid has been making waves ever since she entered thefield of entertainment.

The activist has been breaking barriers ever since sinebecame the first transgender model to enter the field, while at the same timecontinuing to create awareness about transgender rights in Pakistan.

She now has something else to be proud of, as not only didher short film Rani win an award, it has also earned her a Best Actornomination at the NBC Universal Short Film Festival.

Rani was nominated for several awards at thefestival, including Best Actor for Kami and Best Writer, and it won the latter.

"I'm so happy I was invited. People here gave me a standing ovation for my performance and I was even nominated for best actress and it means a lot."

She added, "This is an amazing achievement becauseevery year NBC selects 14 movies out of around 3500 and out of those, six areselected as the finalists. Rani made it to top six and they invited mespecially to attend because of this."

Previously, Rani has been nominated and screened atnumerous film festivals. The film revolves around a Pakistani transgender womanwho sets out to take care of an abandoned baby.

Kami has been a very active transgender activist who hasspoken up several times to improve the plight of the community and removing thephobia surrounding it. She had earlier been featured in a BBC documentarytitled How Gay is Pakistan,hoping to create awareness and end thepersecution surrounding the community.
